The Gumbooted Hedgepog

Ok so I may be going a tad overboard with the posts, but I'll be away the next few days and I guess this makes up for it.
Also....excitement....drumroll.....I have....brand.....new.......GUMBOOTS!



And they are purple :D



The best part is that I actually was completely justified in their purchase, since I'll be wading through streams and such for my uni field trip tomorrow. I also figured that I should have some sort of casing to keep my stationary in. My pens and pencils....AHA! A pencil case. I just so happened to have some adorable fabric left over from the tote I made yesterday, and whipped this up. Sadly, as I didn't use a pattern, I mucked up and have visible seams inside. Still completely functional and gorgeous on the outside :)

So continuing on from the previous list...

3. My bedroom!

I love my bedroom. Even though I have a whole house to myself most days, I still spend most of my time in my bedroom. I know they say that's bad for your sleep. Perhaps I should set up a matress in another room for sleeping, and save my bedroom for the daytime.

I bought a new doona cover a few days ago, which is so happy that I get all excited just looking at it. So cozy and cheerful - exactly what a doona should be!

Doesn't it make you smile? And yes, that's my duck. Her name is Daphne.

Despite the neatness of my bed (I love love love a neat, tucked in bed. LOVE) my room is generally pig-sty-ish. For example, my chest of drawers. My next project is to find or make some cheap shelves and organise the top of it. There's just not enough room as it is for jewellery, makeup etc. so I shall soon remedy that!

The House-Proud Hedgepog

As I mentioned earlier, I own my house - well, I own a third of a house, with my sister owning the other third. But still, I live in my own home, which isn't rented. This is a blessing, because it means I can paint walls and hang things without asking a landlord. On the other hand, it means that I'm constantly wanting to do things which can get a trifle time-consuming and expensive!

Ah well.

So I thought I'd share some of my favourite or most exciting things in my house.

1. Photo collages!
I put these together with photos from my trip to Europe last year. Very big, very colourful, taking up two big empty wall spaces!

2. My bathroom!
We're in the process of renovating our main bathroom. It looks a little worse for wear at the moment. It will look AMAZING once it's done though!

Completely gutted but starting to put back together... (for those of you playing at home, there are actually solid walls now, this is an improvement on yesterday!)

The Crafty Hedgepog

So recently - as in the last week kinda of recently - I have taken up making handbags. This is something I attempted once or twice, with pleasing results, but had never really taken to heart.
However, at the request of my sister I got to making her a lovely tote bag, so after a slightly expensive but altogether lovely trip to my local Spotlight store, I returned with several fabrics, a few buttons and much enthusiasm. Since then I've made another few trips to Spotlight, three little purses, two large totes and a gorgeous satin clutch.



My search for patterns and such has led me to discover these adorable fellows - an Army of Owls, made according to the tutorial from Moonstitches (linked to by Indiefixx).

I've made my first one, out of blue and orangey-brown felt. Sadly I had no eye-appropriate buttons, so I embroidered the eyes on, and used rice instead of the filling material, which actually worked out well, as I didn't need the cardboard circle to help him (or her, I haven't decided yet) stand up!

I'm in love with the little fellow (I think the fact I keep refering to him as a fellow decides the gender question!) and haven't put him down. Little is right however - he only stands about 6cm tall, I might experiment with larger patterns and have him as the baby of the group. And yes, I am planning to make several more, as he is just far too endearing not to! I'll put up a better pic as soon as I get one that's not taken on my dreadfully low quality webcam, but here he is :)

Dear world,

I'm Caitlin - student, musician, nature-lover, craft-enthusiast, vegequarian, caffeine-addict, teacher, tutor, some-time park ranger, sister, home-owner, baker, science nerd, internet zealot, cat-owner, dog person, junk-food junkie, morning person, sporadic exerciser, expert procrastinator and many other things.

One thing I am not? A blogger. I have attempted on the odd occasion to start a blog, and have inevitably given up. Well no, not given up, that implies an actual decision. I have, every time, simply been distracted by life and forgotten all about the sad lonely blog I leave behind.

I have no particular reason to think otherwise this time, but as always I am hopeful and a positive attitude can get you anywhere!
